Jamie: We got are name from a poem Jon wrote. It was about five years ago and we couldn't decide what to call ourselves. The poem was titled shaded red. It was about the blood of Jesus and how that brings forgiveness to us when we trust in christ.
Me: Where and How Did you all meet?
Jamie: The band started first with Jon and I. We are brothers and music kind of ran in the family. We met brian at church where my dad pastors. We all loved music, and wanted to reach people. The band grew out of that.
Me: How Would You Desribe Your Musical Style?
Jamie: I would decribe our music style as alterna-pop-rock. We like songs that are catchy but with the attitude of rock.
Me: How Long Has "Shaded Red" been around?
Jamie: The band has been around for about 4 yrs now. We didn't sign till this summer and our record came out in September. So the rest of the world views us as new. We feel like we have been playing for a long time.
Me: Are You Guys Planning on Doing a Video? ...If so, for what song?
Jamie: We are planning on doing a video in the near future. It will probably be the song caught in coordination with our mainstream single release.
Me: How Old Are All of You?
Jamie: Jon is 21yrs. Brian is 20yrs. and I am the eldest at 23yrs of age.
Me: What are each of you Favorite Songs on the album?
Jamie: Jon's favorite song is faker. Brians favorite song is Caught. My favorite song is probably use me. It's the prayer of the band to be used of God. John Schlitt of Petra's favorite song is Found Someone. Jeff Frankenstein of the Newsboys favorite song is Caught. I hope that helps.
Me: What is your opinion on todays mainstream/secular music and how do you feel it affects your ministry?
Jamie: I can't really answer for other people, I can only answer for me. I believe that I will use music and go anywhere I can to reach people for Christ. It's sad that more christian groups and labels don't have a vision to effect society. Jesus said we are salt. We are light.
Me: In what ways can touring sometimes affect your family life and time with God?
Jamie: Touring is extremely tiring and it's very easy for priorities to get out of whack. My first tour was with Petra this fall. There were days I could only think about one thing: go home and go to sleep. There were other days, all I did was pray while we drove. You just have to be committed to following Jesus and allowing him to affect your life. It's very easy because we are a christian band, to say and do all the right things without even really having a intimite relationship with Jesus. Each one of the guys encourage each other to really obey God in all areas.
Me: A little off the serious side... What Cartoon Character best describes each of yourselves?
Jamie: Jon is just jon. Brian is the green lantern. I am the Duke of GI Joe
Me: If a movie was made about your lives, who would you want to play each of you?
Jamie: We would want to play ourselves.
Me: Who are some of your favorite Artists in the Christian Music Industry?
Jamie: Sarah Jahn. Newsboys. John Cox. DC Talk.
Me: Who are some people who have had an influence on you musically?
Jamie: We actually like many different people. Duke Ellington. Beethoven. Unfortunately, those don't effect my music alot.
Me: Do You have any upcoming tours?
Jamie: We are doing a 40 city tour this spring and most of the music festivals this summer.
Me: What Inspired "Found Someone"?
Jamie: I really do like that song mainly because of it's comparison of the need for love and from whom we receive it. I wrote that song with jon after I just realized that human love and affection could never fully satisfy me. Only Jesus and God's love could give me the assurance and complete reliable love that I needed.
Me: Do You have your own e-mail addresses?
Jamie: yes, but not over christmas. Our personal computer is on loan to a friend.
Me: What would you like to say to anyone considering buying your album?
Jamie: I don't know. Listen to it and I know you will enjoy it.
